Trailer

Plot

In the winter of 1979, Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney), a 14-year-old boy living in the fictional town of Lillian, Ohio, has lost his mother in a factory accident. Louis Dainard (Ron Eldard) comes to the wake, but Joe’s father, Deputy Jackson Lamb (Kyle Chandler), takes Dainard away in handcuffs. It is later revealed that Jackson blames Louis for his wife’s death because he was absent during his shift and she had to fill in for him.
Four months later, Joe’s friend Charles Kaznyk (Riley Griffiths) convinces Dainard’s daughter Alice (Elle Fanning), who both he and Joe secretly have crushes on, to be the protagonist’s wife in his low budget zombie movie on Super 8 film. Alice steals her father’s car and takes Joe, Charles, Preston (Zach Mills), Martin (Gabriel Basso), and Cary (Ryan Lee) to an old train depot where the group plans to film a scene. During the shoot, Joe watches a pick-up truck drive onto the tracks and place itself in the path of an oncoming train, causing a massive derailment. Something breaks open one of the train car’s doors and escapes. In the aftermath of the accident, the kids find the wreck littered with strange white cubes. They approach the truck and discover Dr. Woodward (Glynn Turman), their biology teacher, behind the wheel of the truck, who purposefully sabotaged the train. He instructs them to never talk about what they saw; otherwise, they and their parents will be killed. Moments afterwards, the U.S. Air Force, led by Colonel Nelec (Noah Emmerich), arrives to secure the crash site while the kids flee the scene.
Over the next couple of days, strange phenomena occur: numerous town dogs run away; kitchen appliances, car engines, and power lines vanish, and people begin to disappear. The Air Force deliberately starts a wildfire (Operation Walking Distance) outside of town, giving them a pretext to evacuate the entire town to a nearby base. Upon arriving at the base, Joe finds Louis Dainard, who tells him that a creature abducted Alice. Joe, Charles, Cary, and Martin sneak back into town and head to their school, where they break into Woodward’s stash of confiscated items, thinking he may have hidden documentation about the creature that might help them save Alice. In the papers, film, and audio recordings, they discover that the government imprisoned an extraterrestrial (played by Bruce Greenwood in motion capture sequences) who crashed on Earth in 1958. The alien only wished to rebuild its ship, using the shapeshifting white cubes and return home, but it was instead imprisoned and tortured by the Air Force, who sought to seize its technology. One film shows Woodward, a researcher at the time, being attacked by the alien. This physical contact caused him to form a telepathic bond with the alien, through which he learned that it only wanted to go home. Woodward derailed the train to free it from captivity.
Colonel Nelec and his men storm the school and capture the boys. They place the children on a security bus and head back to the Air Force base, but the alien attacks the bus on the way. Nelec and his men are killed, while Joe and his friends escape. The kids head through the town, which is now under heavy fire from malfunctioning military equipment as the military attempts to battle the alien. They find the alien’s subterranean lair near the cemetery where Joe’s mother is buried, along with several missing people who have been trapped there by the alien, which has apparently kept them for food. The town’s missing electronics are there too, formed together to create a giant electromagnet underneath the base of the water tower. Joe manages to rescue Alice, but, as they escape, the alien grabs Joe, who tells the creature that it can still live on even after painful events. The alien understands Joe’s meaning through their tactile telepathic connection and lets go of him, allowing him and his friends to escape.
Shortly after, all the cubes (which break free from Air Force transport trucks) as well as loose metal from around the town are attracted to the town’s water tower. The cubes begin to align and a ship begins to take form around the water tower, which the alien then enters. Joe’s metal locket, which contains a picture of him as a baby with his mother, is also drawn towards the tower, and, after a moment, he decides to let it go, finally putting the past behind him. Everyone watches as the ship takes off toward space.
During the end credits, the full movie that Charles and his friends were working on, titled The Case, is shown, with an epilogue in which Charles asks the film festival judges to select his movie, before he is assaulted by a zombie played by Alice.

Trailer

Plot

The film begins with the sentencing of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw), a notorious murderer. Between the reading of the sentence and the execution, the story of his life is told in flashback, beginning with his abandonment at birth in a French fish market. Raised in an orphanage, Grenouille grows into a strangely detached boy with a superhuman sense of smell. After growing to maturity as a tanner’s apprentice, he makes his first delivery to Paris, where he revels in the new odors. He focuses on a girl selling plums (Karoline Herfurth) and startles her with his behavior. To prevent her from crying out, he covers the girl’s mouth and unintentionally suffocates her. After realizing that she is dead, he strips her body naked and smells her until the scent fades. Afterwards, Grenouille becomes haunted by the desire to recreate the plum slicing girl’s scent.
After making a delivery to a perfume shop, Grenouille amazes the Italian owner, Giuseppe Baldini (Dustin Hoffman), with his ability to create fragrances. He revitalizes the perfumer’s career with new formulas, demanding only that Baldini teach him how to convert scents into perfume. Baldini explains that all perfumes are harmonies of twelve individual scents, and may contain a theoretical thirteenth scent. He also tells a story about a perfume discovered in an Egyptian tomb that was so perfect that it caused everyone in the entire world to briefly believe they were in paradise the moment the bottle was opened. When Grenouille discovers that Baldini’s method of distillation will not capture the scents of all objects, such as iron chains and dead animals, he becomes depressed. After receiving a letter of presentation written by Baldini, Grenouille leaves to learn a different method in Grasse. En route to Grasse, Grenouille realises that he has no scent of his own, and is therefore a cipher. He decides that creating the perfect smell will prove his worth.
Upon arrival in Grasse, Grenouille catches the scent of Laura Richis (Rachel Hurd-Wood), daughter of the wealthy Antoine Richis (Alan Rickman) and decides that she will be his “thirteenth scent”, the linchpin of his perfect perfume. Grenouille finds a job in Grasse under Madame Arnulfi (Corinna Harfouch) and Dominique Druot (Paul Berrondo) assisting with perfumes and learns the method of enfleurage. He kills a lavender picker and attempts to extract her scent using the method of hot enfleurage, which fails. After this, he tries the method of cold enfleurage on a prostitute and successfully preserves the scent of the woman. Grenouille embarks on a killing spree, murdering beautiful young girls and capturing their scents. He dumps the women’s naked corpses around the city, creating panic. After preserving the first twelve scents, Grenouille plans his attack on Laura. During a church sermon against him it is announced that a man has confessed to the murders. Richis remains unconvinced and flees the city with his daughter. Grenouille tracks her scent to a roadside inn and sneaks into her room that night. The next morning, Richis discovers Laura lying dead in her bed.
Soldiers capture Grenouille moments after he finishes preparing his perfume. On the day of his execution, he applies a drop of the perfume over himself. The executioner and the crowd in attendance are speechless at the beauty of the perfume; they declare Grenouille innocent before falling into a massive orgy. Richis, still convinced at Grenouille’s guilt, threatens him with his sword, before being overwhelmed by the scent and embracing Grenouille as his “son”. Eventually, the town awakens and decides that the godly Grenouille could not have been the murderer. Druot is convicted for the murders and hanged, since it was his backyard where the clothes and hair of the victims were found.
Walking out of Grasse unscathed, Grenouille has enough perfume to rule the world, but has discovered that it will not allow him to love or be loved like a normal person. Disenchanted by his aimless quest and tired of his life, he returns to Paris. Back in the city, Grenouille returns to the fish market where he was born and dumps the perfume on his head. Overcome by the scent and in the belief that Grenouille is an angel, the nearby crowd devours him. The next day, all that is left are his clothes and the open perfume bottle, from which one final drop of perfume falls.

Trailer

Plot

A Ra.One (Hindi: रा.वन; full: Random Access–Version 1.0) is a 2011 Hindi science fiction superhero film written and directed by Anubhav Sinha. The film stars Shahrukh Khan in a double-role as Shekhar Subramanium, a nerdy father and game developer, and his superhero look-alike G.One. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor as Shekhar’s wife, Armaan Verma as their son, and Arjun Rampal as the titular game villain Ra.One. Shahana Goswami, Dalip Tahil and Chinese-American actor Tom Wu star in supporting roles, along with Rajinikanth, Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra making guest appearances. The film is jointly produced by Eros International and Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, and was originally scheduled to release on 3 June 2011. However, due to extensive post-production work involving special effects and the 3D conversion, its release was postponed.Development of Ra.One commenced in 2004, when Anubhav Sinha wrote a three-page short story based on the commercial, that dealt with two kids controlling a human with a remote. Shahrukh Khan was then approached after finalizing the story, which Khan agreed to produce and star in. Work on pre-production began after the release of Khan’s Om Shanti Om in 2007,[3] with principal photography commencing in March 2009.[4] In July 2011, it was announced that the entire film would be converted into 3D.[5] The budget of the film is estimated at INR 175 crore (US$ 39 million),[1] and overtook Enthiran to become India’s most expensive film to date.Ra.One had multiple premieres in Dubai, London and Toronto,[7] a few days before the release of the film. The film had it’s international theatrical release on the Diwali weekend beginning October 26, 2011.[8] The film released across 5,000 screens worldwide in 2D and around 600 screens in 3D,[9][10] along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and German,[11] making it the largest cinematic release in the world among Indian.According to director Anubhav Sinha, the idea of making Ra.One originated while he was watching a commercial on television six years ago. Sinha said, “The commercial dealt with two kids controlling a human with a remote. It was fascinating, and the visual stayed with me for some time.” Sinha wrote a three-page short story based on the commercial, which he felt was good enough to be made into a film.[4] Upon finalizing the story, he approached Shahrukh Khan with the film in August 2005, and Khan instantly agreed to produce and star in it.[4] Red Chillies Entertainment’s Keitan Yadav revealed that during the release of Main Hoon Na (2004), Khan was keen on making a VFX-loaded film that was larger than life.[13] His production company continued working on other projects and seeking for the right film until they finally decided on Ra.One.[13] Prior to starting the film, Khan approached several directors to helm the project but they all refused due to various concerns.”Ra.One is the modern, new age technology version of our mythological “Raavan”, who was a mixture of ten different evil characters. I am essaying the role of G.One or better say “Jeevan”, a superhero who saves the mankind from Ra.One’s torment. Through this film, I want to prove that Indian superheroes can also be as cool as the international ones.”—Shahrukh Khan on Ra.One Pre-production work for the film began in November 2007 after the release of Khan’s Om Shanti Om (2007). Sinha spent several months going through video clips, digital art portals and comic books; he later explained that this process helped him in creating a novel character.[3] Khan stated that “When we started this film, the idea was can we make a simple film, about a husband, wife and child and then suddenly blow everyone’s mind when they start fighting [...] So there were two films in one: the people who like the action…and those who like a family film.”Goofy gaming expert, Shekhar Subramaniam (Shah Rukh Khan) wants to be a super hero for his son Prateik (Armaan Verma). But his young son, like all young sons, thinks super villans are more cool. So Shekhar creates the ultimate clash of good against evil by pitting a very powerful anti-hero Ra-One against a seemingly less potent good guy. But can the good guys ever lose?Movie Review: Rajnikant’s Robot may have pre-dated it, but Ra-One does manage to hold despite the larger-than-life quality of Rajni’s antics as Chitti. Here, Shah Rukh Khan does the train walk sideways and he does it rather well. And if that is not enough, the two desi sci fi heroes have a split second encounter on the streets of Mumbai, with Rajni saar showing off his flying googles act and SRK replicating it with elan.

Trailer

Plot

Tony (NTR) does anything for money. Tony was in Kashmir and he was captured by terrorists. Over there he meets Niharika (Tamannaah) and rescues her. Then he falls in love with her. Niharika was already engaged with a goon but she didn’t know he was a goon. When Tony proves it she dumps him. Niharika’s friend sees Tony murdering someone. Later on she finds out that he was trying to save Niharika from the guy he murdered and there’s a flashback. The flashback is about how Nikarika’s brother was a undercover cop and was trying to arrest a big dangerous gang (Prakash raj). When Prakash Raj finds out he kills Niharika’s family. Niharika survives but has a bullet in her head. If the doctors take it out she will die, so they kept it in there but she is going to lose her memory and before she does she hires Tony to kill those who killed her family. So that’s why Tony was murdering people It all begins well with a sidekick narrating the different traits of Tony to a thug who is in search of a heroic henchman in Mumbai. Tony, for one, is a gutsy bod with deadly eyes, a Napoleanic heart and a never-wracking viscera. For another, Tony is a remarkable lover who would go to any extent for the sake of a promise he made to his sweetheart. Who is Tony? He is a well-built youth with a penchant for eliminating everyone in sight. Like everybody else in this incongruent film, who kill ruthlessly. Oosaravelli begins on a high note, falters mid-way and descends into chaos later. The film keeps switching locations before you can take notice. Cut to Kashmir, where Tony (NTR) is on a death row, along with a beautiful stranger, Niharika (Tamanna Bhatia). Apparently, some terrorists (and they behave as if they are executing actors in a drama play) are butchering ten innocents one after the other because some Indian Mujahideen leader was murdered by the army. Next in row are the two birds. The girl shares some tense moments but the guy remains unruffled, feigning a resignation from the rough and tumble of life. (Why so?) All of a sudden, the girl plants a life-giving kiss on his lips, which reignites a string of emotions in him. He saves himself and the girl in a jiffy and breaks into a song. (By the way, NTR seems to be grooving like Devi Sri Prasad in a stage performance in this song).Cut to Dubai, where a ridiculous scene in the middle of an ocean involving two-three gangsters and a politician (Tanikella Bharani) leaves you gasping. Tony follows the girl in Hyderabad (don’t lose the count of the places). The film takes the shade of a rom-com from this point. Niharika, unfortunately, loves one Rakesh, Tanikella’s son. Nevertheless, Tony decides to make her fall in love with him while Raks flies to the US on a 15-day camp. Before it is interval time, the NTR-Tamanna track gives you some moments to enjoy. These are few but they add to the fun factor. Just when you are thinking ‘so far, so good,’ a Tony-Rakesh showdown raises the curtain for routine fare. All that Tony had been looking for was an opportunity to eliminate a dreaded mafia leader (called Irrfan bhai), Rakesh and his wily father-politician, and scores of thugs. Why is Tony after them? Who is next on his radar? How is his destiny intertwined to that of Niharika? The second half answers these questions in a predictable fashion. The script has got some gaping flaws. The Rakesh-Niharika element doesn’t seem imperative. Ridiculous violence and mindless killings, all seem quite pointless and out of context. Songs are extremely intrusive. (The vaudevillian Mongolia number after the flashback is an assault on our senses). In the absence of intensity in the proceedings, even sentimental scenes seem superficial. At times, things border on the eccentric. At one point, the dreaded Prakash Raj looks on as if he is watching a romantic thriller while the girl takes her sweet time to administer an oath to the hero.
Performance-wise, NTR looks just about okay. Tamanna’s performance is good but inconsistent. Prakash Raj as Azju bhai is wasted. (He looks to be fed up with donning the greasepaint for a low brow role and delivering a forced output here). On the positive side, the oddball wit involving JP (Jaya Prakash as Jaya Prada), who is made into an accidental don through design by NTR, is enjoyable. All in all, Oosaravelli is an opportunity wasted. It’s a character-based story, but a shoddy screenplay leaves you asking for help..

Bellflower Mediafire Download (2011) BluRay 720p 600MB

Trailer

Plot

Bellflower follows two friends as they venture out into the world to begin their adult lives. Literally all their free time is spent building flame-throwers and weapons of mass destruction in hopes that a global apocalypse will occur and clear the runway for their imaginary gang “Mother Medusa”. While waiting for the world to end, their call to excitement comes unexpectedly when one of them meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love. Quickly integrated into a new group of friends, they set off on a journey of betrayal, love, hate, infidelity and extreme violence more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies. Often life’s simplest and most obvious truths are the hardest to see, but once you’ve burned everything to the ground it may be the only thing left standing think the moment I realized I hated Evan Glodell’s directorial debut, Bellflower was about the third or fourth time one of its vacuous, dull characters conflated Mad Max with its sequel, The Road Warrior. The characters make constant reference to Lord Humungous and scenes from the latter film while calling it the former, and if any of you fine readers can divine a narrative purpose for this confusion on the part on the characters, I would be more than happy to hear it. Because honestly, Bellflower does a poor job at giving any sense of motivation to any thing its immature, aimless, empty leads do, making the entire runtime of the film feel like attending a party with a bunch of people you don’t know, seeing some of them get into a nasty argument, and realizing quickly that you hate them all but can’t leave because the doors are locked.
I can honestly say it’s been a long time since I’ve hated a movie so thoroughly.
This mess of a production follows Woodrow and Aiden (Glodell and Tyler Dawson), 20-somethings who moved out to California because they thought it would be cool, and who subsequently decide to build a tricked out muscle car a la Mad Max which they dub “Medusa.” Then Woodrow meets a “wild” girl, manic pixie Millie (Jessie Wiseman)–guys, if a girl tells you she doesn’t want a relationship because it’ll end badly, walk away because she’s giving you clear signs of years of baggage. We suspect she’s flaky/unpleasant given how thoroughly she fails to acknowledge or deal with the crush her roommate Mike (Vincent Grashaw) has on her.
Anyway, Millie and Woodrow take a trip to Texas with her on their first date because it’s cool, and from there the movie meanders its way through their unlikely, unappealing, and mostly uninteresting relationship. He whines and makes puppy dog eyes at her while she seems to see him as a waypoint to whatever shiny thing enters her field of vision. With more thought and better performances, the tension between Millie and Woodrow could have been something–as it stands it’s just another undermotivated part of the movie.
At its core, I suspect Bellflower is about a sort of boozy young adulthood crashing into “real” adulthood. But then, not a single one of the characters grows, changes, or really gives us insight into this theme. Not a single one of them appears to have a job, or any concrete interest, personality, or even a last name. The acting isn’t really much help either, with each member of the cast delivering the same distant, faux-ironic performance that just grates, and wears after a while. I wanted to get into Glodell’s efforts to let the characters bob along with their own currents–I can respect that instinct. At the same time, I need to know a little something about these characters before I follow them along for nearly two hours wandering the grimy titular street where all the action takes place.
Then there’s the third act, which veers off into uncharted territory, with violence, blood, and fire, and has little if any emotional resonance with what came before. I wish I could somehow project into your brain beyond mere words how little I cared about any of this, how, by this point, I would have happily run from a crumbling theater rather than subject myself to the lifeless eyes of the film’s leads, from their monotone, flat delivery, from their lack of character.
I believe that every film, whether a micro-budget indie shot on a flip cam or a big budget 3D production based on a ride, is about communicating an idea to an audience. Whatever the purpose–to sell toys, to push politics, to enlighten, surprise, or anything else–the core idea is the sharing of some germ, some spark that the filmmaker had to pass from their brain into someone else’s.
Why was Glodell interested in telling this story with these characters? Who are they to him? With Bellflower, there is neither germ nor spark, no particularly coherent or compelling idea. Just a preponderance of yellow-toned visuals and listless performances, like the car the film spends so much time on, it’s a bunch of pretty noise with no purpose.
Bellflower screened previously at the 37th Seattle International Film Festival back in June and this review has been embargoed since that time. It opens in limited release on August 5.
